The capital city of Sultanate of Brunei is Bandar Seri Begawan also known as BSB or just Bandar. Located at latitude 4⁰53’25” N and longitude 114⁰56’32” E Bandar city covers a total area of 100.36 km². Bandar city has a strong population of over 296,600 as per the estimate of 2011. Tourist Places in Bandar Seri Begawan

There are some popular places of interest in and around the capital city. The names of these are listed below:

Brunei Museum

The Brunei museum is sited 5 km east of the heart of Bandar Seri Begawan. Situated on the apex of a hill at Jalan Kota Batu, the museum has a remarkable architecture. The museum has a wonderful collection of ancient Islamic artifacts.

Omar Ali Saifuddin Mosque

This Mosque is another marvelous wonders dedicated to the Islamic religion in the state. The structure stands tall with a dome made of gold. This magnificent structure can be viewed from anywhere in Bandar Seri Begawan. This religious structure was built in the year 1958.

Kampong Ayer

This place is the largest village formed over water in the entire world. It touches both the banks of the river, Brunei. This village is not formed of a single village but a group of detached villages.

Jerudong Park

This park is accessible only through an invitation from the Sultan of Brunei. However, there is another amusement park located next to the invitee’s only area at Jerudong Park.

Peradayan Forest Reserve

This is a rain forest located in Brunei. This reserve is famous for the nocturnal species. However there are other species of animals that are not seen in any other forests in the world.

Means of Commutation to Bandar Seri Begawan

Airway:

Brunei International Airport operates flights to places such as Kota Kinabalu, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Dubai, London, Shanghai, Melbourne, Manila, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Surabaya, Jakarta. The airport is 11 km away from Bandar Seri Begawan. Taxis and public buses are available at the airport to offer transportation to visitors till Bandar Seri Begawan city. The journey takes hardly twenty minutes from the airport to the city. A ride from a taxi to the city will cost B$25 while a bus ticket cost B$2.

Roadway:

Bandar Seri Begawan has roads linking to Brunei. Sarawak in Malaysia is easily connected to Bandar by a main road which passes through Tutong, Seria and Kuala Belait. There is a main road linking Limbang in Sarawak to Muara and Kuala Lurah in Bandar. But this main road passes through two check posts, one at Puni the other at Kuala Lurah before reaching Bangar.

There are regular bus service from Kuala Beliat in Brunei to places such as Seri, Miri, Kuala Lurah, and Muara and vice versa.

Sea route:

There are boats available from Temburong district across Sungai Kianggeh at Jalan Residency that leaves regularly to Bangar and Bandar. Boats are also available from places such as Labuan, Lawas, Sundar and other towns in Sarawak leaving from Serasa Ferry Terminal to places such as Kota Kinabalu, Sabah every day and vice versa.

Getting around the city:

Known as Penambang or Water taxi service, happens to be one of the low priced transportation along the Brunei River connecting Kampong Ayer to Bandar Seri Begawan.

Public buses and tour vans are other means of transport available to travel within city limits.
