Delhi is a capital city of India geographically placed at 28°36′36″N latitude and 77°13′48″E longitude. It is the second most metropolitan city in terms of population in India after Mumbai and is in fourth position in the world. Delhi city covers an area of 1,484 sq. km. and is positioned at an elevation of 125 meters. The Pin Code of Delhi begins from 110001.

Delhi is home to Indian Supreme Court and Delhi High Court and is mutually administered by Delhi Government and Indian Central Government. Delhi is the biggest business centre in Northern India houses numerous telecommunication centres, information technology centres, manufacturing units, retail outlets, world class hotels and tourism places.

Feroz Shah Kotla Ground, Ambedkar Stadium and Buddh International Circuit are the major sports centres in Delhi. Also Delhi is home to Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi University and Indira Gandhi National Open University.

 

History of Delhi:-

According to Indian Mythology, Delhi (earlier known as Indraprastha) was served as the capital of Pandavas during the Mahabharata Period. During the 6th century, several major dynasties have made Delhi as their kingdom and Delhi was re-developed as the major business, civilize and political centre during the Delhi Sultanates period. Kolkata was the capital of British Government in India during the beginning of 19th century. After the rule of British Government in India, Delhi was declared as the capital city of India.

Rashtrapati Bhavan:-

Rashtrapati Bhavan is one of the administrative centres of Indian Government as well as the famous tourist attraction constructed with blend of Indian and Western style architecture. It is the presidential palace of the country and was inaugurated as Viceregal Lodge in 1931 and after the republic of India renamed as Rashtrapati Bhavan in 1959.

 

Red Fort:-

Red Fort is the historical fort built in the year 1647. The construction work of fort was completed within 8 years and the famous King Shah Jahan was the planner of the fort. On every Independence Day (August 15th, ) the Prime Minister of India hosts flag here.

 

Chandni Chowk:-

Chandni Chowk is well known market place situated in Delhi. It was established by Shah Jahan, the establisher of the world famous Taj Mahal. Chandni Chowk has near proximity with Jama Masjid and Red Fort and is considered as Asia’s biggest wholesale market.

India Gate and Rajpath:-

India Gate was built in the commemorative of Indian soldiers who died in Afghan wars and World War I. Deceased soldiers names are mentioned on the walls of India Gate. It acts as the major tourist destination of Delhi attracts tourists from all over the country and globe as well.

 

Sansad Bhavan:-

Sansad Bhavan also known as the Parliament of India was constructed in the year 1912–1913 and the design of this circular building was made by British architects Sir Edwin Lutyens and Sir Herbert Baker.
