Durres is a city situated in the middle of Albanian Coast and it is an ancient and economically significant city in the Albanian. Coordinates of Durres are 41.3167° N, 19.4500° E and positioned at the distance of 40 kilometers from Tirana, capital of Albanian. Economy of the city is mainly based on port and tourism industry and there are number of beach resorts along the Coast which is visited by the tourists all through the year. Durres is surrounded by Sukth, Shijak, Vore, Hamallaj, Golem, Kavaje and Gerdec towns.

History of Durres:

Durres was established around 627 BC by an ancient Greek colonist and from 229 BC, the region was ruled by Roman and they developed main military and naval base in the city. Western Roman Empire fell in 481 and the city came under the rule of Byzantine Empire and became major port and link among the Empire and the Western Europe. In 1273, Durres was destroyed by massive earthquake but again rebuilt and later captured by Milutin King of Serbia in the year 1296 and later the city was ruled by Albanian Family, Turkey and Ottomans. In 1915, during the First World War the city of Durres was captured by Italy and Nazi Germany ruled the city during the Second World War until 1944.
