Rangpur is a prominent city situated in Rangpur District of Rangpur Division in Bangladesh. It is located about 312 km northwest of Dhaka City, the national capital of Bangladesh. On 16th December 1769, Rangpur was announced as the administrative headquarters of Rangpur District.
Rangpur Municipality was established in the year 1869 and is considered as one of the ancient municipalities in the country. Rangpur City is located between 25°44′ N latitude and 89°15′ E longitude and is placed at an altitude of 34 meters.
Rangpur District has an area of 2,307.78 sq. km. and shares its borders with Kurigram District in the east, Gaibandha District to the south, Nilphamari District on the north and Dinajpur District towards west.
