History of Sarpsborg:

Sarpsborg was established in 1016, as Borg by the Viking King Olav Haraldsson but in the year 1567, the region was burned to ground by Swedish invaders. Later the town was re constructed several times but was finally recreated in the year 1839 as a municipality.
