South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands are situated in the Southern Atlantic Ocean is a British overseas territory. It is an unfriendly and isolated group of islands called as ‘South Georgia’ and series of small island ‘South Sandwich Islands’ and covers an area of 3,903 square kilometers (1,507 square miles) and capital of the island is King Edward Point. Anthony de la Roche, a London merchant first sighted the island in the year 1675 and named Roche Island and in the year 1755, the island was claimed for the Kingdom of Great Britain by Capitan James Cook and named in the honor of King George III. Whaling station was established in the islands during the 19th century and ended in 1960. South Sandwich Islands was captured by Argentina in the year 1938 who established the summer station on the islands. In Falklands War between Argentina and British, British took the control over the islands.
