Terre-de-Haut is situated towards the extreme east of les Sainte archipelago at 15°52′ N 61°34′ W. The surrounding islands of Terre-de-Haut are Terre-de-Bas, la Redonde, les Roches Percees, le Pate, les Augustins and Grand-Îlet. Terre-de-Haut has an area of 5.2 sq. kms and Chameau Hill is the highest point on the island pointed at an altitude of 306 meters.

How to reach Terre-de-Haut?

Terre-de-Haut has a small airport that welcomes private flights from Guadeloupe and other Caribbean islands. International tourists are advised to reach Pointe-a-Pitre International Airport on Grand Terre Island first and then take taxi to the Port de Jarry seaport and there are regular ferries available to Terre-de-Haut.

Rental scooters are available in Terre-de-Haut and bike, car, taxi and minibuses are other options for local travel. Some shuttle boats offer services to neighboring Terre-de-Bas many times a day.

Remember: vehicle riding is forbidden in the centre of town from 9 AM to noon and from 14:00 PM to 16:00 PM for some security reasons.

The Fort Napoleon des Saintes is the identity of Terre-de-Haut situated in the outskirts of the town. The French constructed it initially and later it was demolished by the British in 1809 and reconstructed with name ‘Fort Napoleon’ in the honor of Napoleon III. It was converted into a museum by the local authority, dedicated to the history and culture of des Saintes. It also features botanical garden and Jardin exotique du Fort Napoleon.
