Tobruk is a Libyan city, located on the eastern Mediterranean coast of the country, around 450 km east of the city of Benghazi and 1250 km west of Tripoli, the capital of Libya. Situated around 150 km from the Libyan border with Egypt, Tobruk is the administrative centre of the Butnan District. Tobruk lies at an altitude of 5 meters and coordinates with 32°4′34″ N latitude and 23°57′41″ E longitude.
History of Tobruk:
Tobruk had been colonized since the ancient Greek period and then by the Romans and later it became part of the Ottoman Empire. Tobruk came under the Italian rule in 1911 and during the World War II, Tobruk was heavily threatened by the clashes happened between the Italian and Australian forces. Tobruk also played major role in finishing the dictatorship of Muammar Gaddafi in Libya.

Tobruk is served by the Tobruk Airport with flight services from Benghazi, Tripoli, Tunis, Alexandria and Tripoli. The airport is situated around 13 km west of the centre of Tobruk city.

The Port of Tobruk is one of the landmark sites of Tobruk. It was opened in the year 1986 and was once tentatively closed during the Libyan civil war. It has been in reoperation since February 2011. It is a nice relaxation as well as sightseeing spot.
