Yokohama History:
During the Edo Period Yokohama was a tiny fishing village as most of the people was engaged in fishing activities. A major turnaround took place during 1853 and 1854 when Commondore Matthew Perry landed with fleet of warships in Yokohama opening its doors to international trade and commerce which began as a major boost in this region. During the Meiji Restoration in 1868, Yokohama was developed as a major port city for silk trading and in the year 1870 gas fitted street lights were installed in the city. A major earthquake shook the city in the year 1923 which saw large scale damage to life and property where many people were killed and rendered many homeless. Yokohama became a victim of Second World War in the year 1945 when the US Airforce dropped B-29 bombs on the city which turned the city into rubble within few minutes.
