Zwedru is a Liberian city, serving as the administrative centre of Grand Gedeh County, lying between 6°04′ N latitude and 8°08′ W longitude. It comes under Tchien District, is located around 475 km southeast of the national capital, Monrovia. Zwedru lies on the bank of the Cavalla River in the southeastern part of the country. Zwedru is a city in the scenic region, surrounded by lush forest with many bird species.

The name of Zwedru may be derived from the chief of a local anteater creek. Like most Liberian cities, Zwedru was also badly damaged during the Liberian Civil War and before this, Zwedru was also noted for timber production.

How to reach Zwedru?

Tchien Airport is the closest airport to Zwedru, but it currently doesn’t receive any flights. So it is advised for international tourists to reach Roberts International Airport near the national capital Monrovia and afterwards they can choose rental car or bus to reach Zwedru from the airport.

Sapo National Park:

Lying in the Upper Guinean forest ecosystem, the Sapo National Park is Liberia’s only national park, covering around 1,804 sq. km rainforest area.
