Xaghra is a village on the Gozo Island in Malta, situated about 3 km away from Victoria, the largest city on Gozo and 45 km from Valletta, the capital of Malta. It is the largest village on the Gozo Island in terms of population with inhabitants of about 5,000. Also it is considered as the oldest settlement of Gozo as it is home to many prehistoric sites including famous Ġgantija megalithic temples.

Xaghra was earlier called as Caccia during the British occupation of Malta. The parish church in Xagħra is the major landmark of the village.

 

Geography of Xaghra:

Xaghra coordinates with 36°3′1″ N latitude and 14°16′3″ E longitude covering an area of 2.5 sq. km. The bordering villages of Xaghra are Nadur, Victoria, Xewkija and Żebbuġ.

 

How to reach Xaghra?

There is no airport in Xaghra, so the international tourists are needed to reach the Malta International Airport first and then they can use bus or taxis from there to the Ċirkewwa Ferry terminal where ferries take tourists to Mġarr Ferry Terminal. There are regular taxis and buses available at the latter ferry terminal to Xaghra.

Tourists can hire a car or bike from any of the travel agencies of Xaghra for sightseeing, local travel and airport ravel.
